Monsters, Inc. Land At Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Growing up, I was obsessed with Monsters, Inc. and Monsters University. I was a Pixar kid through and through, so anything from the studio immediately captured my heart—but there was something about Mike, Sulley, and the world of Monstropolis that felt extra special to me. Maybe it was the humor, the creativity, or the way the movie flipped the idea of monsters on its head. But another big reason? My little sister looks just like Boo! I always thought that if the monster world were real, she’d totally be running around causing chaos in Monstropolis.

So when Disney announced that a Monsters, Inc.-themed land was officially coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, I just about lost my mind with excitement. Not only is this a dream come true for longtime fans like me, but it’s also a perfect addition to the park. Hollywood Studios has long been home to some of Disney’s best story-driven lands, from Galaxy’s Edge to Toy Story Land, and Monstropolis is going to fit right in.

Let’s break down everything we know so far about this exciting new addition—plus the surprise Muppets announcement that’s shaking things up even more!

What We Know About Monsters, Inc. at Hollywood Studios

Disney revealed this brand-new Monsters, Inc. land during the Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase at D23, with Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro taking the stage alongside Disney Legend (and voice of Mike Wazowski) Billy Crystal. They officially confirmed that Monstropolis is coming to Hollywood Studios, bringing guests straight into the world of Monsters, Inc. for the very first time.

What to Expect in the New Land

📍 Walk the Streets of Monstropolis

The land is designed to take place after the events of Monsters, Inc., where humans are now officially welcomed into the monster world. This means we’ll get to walk the bustling streets of Monstropolis, possibly encountering some of our favorite monster residents along the way.

🎢 Disney’s First-Ever Suspended Coaster

Here’s the part that made me literally scream: we are getting a Monsters, Inc.-themed suspended roller coaster that recreates the iconic door vault scene from the original movie. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve dreamed of riding through those swirling, flying doors like Mike and Sulley. And now, Disney is actually making it happen!

Josh D’Amaro even said himself: “The first time I saw Monsters, Inc., all I wanted to do was ride on one of those doors like Mike and Sulley.”

And that’s exactly what we’ll be doing! The coaster will lift guests into the air, just like in the movie, creating a fast-paced, high-flying adventure through Monsters, Inc. Headquarters.

🎭 New Theater Show & Themed Dining

In addition to the coaster, Disney has confirmed that Monstropolis will feature an all-new theater show (though details are still under wraps) and at least one themed dining location. Could we be getting Harryhausen’s—the sushi restaurant from the movie? Or maybe Monsters University-themed eats? Only time will tell, but I’ll be first in line to find out.

🚧 When Will It Open?

There’s no official opening date yet, but construction is scheduled to begin in summer 2025. That means we’ll have to wait a little longer before we can step into the world of Monsters, but if there’s one thing I know about Disney Imagineering—it’ll be worth the wait.

Changes Coming to Grand Avenue

To make way for Monsters, Inc. Land, we’ll be saying goodbye to a few Hollywood Studios staples:

  • Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano will serve its last meal on May 10, 2025.

  • Muppet*Vision 3D and PizzeRizzo will close after June 7, 2025.

While it’s sad to see these locations go, Disney has hinted that elements of Muppet*Vision 3D may be preserved in some form in the future. So, fingers crossed we haven’t seen the last of the greatest 3D show ever!

🎸 Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Is Getting a Muppets Makeover

That’s right—Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is officially being re-themed to a Muppets rock festival, featuring Kermit, Miss Piggy, and other beloved Muppets characters. This marks the first-ever Muppets-themed thrill ride at a Disney park, and I can already tell this is going to be hilarious.

Here’s what we know about the retheme:

Instead of Aerosmith, The Muppets will be headlining a rock festival, featuring special guest stars from the music world.

The ride will still be a high-speed roller coaster, but now with Muppets-style mayhem and an all-new soundtrack.

There will be Muppets-themed merchandise available on Sunset Boulevard, bringing a whole new energy to this area of the park.

While we don’t have an exact closure date for Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, expect a refurbishment to begin sometime in 2025.

Final Thoughts

I still can’t believe this is actually happening. A Monsters, Inc. land and a Muppets roller coaster? Hollywood Studios is about to become even more incredible, and I can’t wait to see how these new experiences unfold.

For me, Monsters, Inc. is more than just a movie—it’s a core part of my childhood. Seeing it come to life in the parks is a dream I never thought I’d get to experience. And I already know I’ll be riding that door vault coaster over and over (and over) again.
